History
Over 300,000 years ago a mysterious precursor race, commonly called the Ancients, visited the Earth and transported humans to over 100 worlds in what would be become known space. Whether it was as slaves, pets or scientific experiments; no one knows. The Ancients also transported Terran wolves and genetically engineered them to become the Vargr. Some of the transplanted humans were genetically modified a well. All the various branches of humans are commonly referred to as Humaniti. In time the Ancients vanished in a devastating civil war that destroyed planets and scarred whole sectors of space. On over 40 worlds Humaniti survives and lived on after the end of the Ancients.
Over 11,000 years ago one of the transported human cultures, the Vilani, grows and progresses until they started exploring space. In time they discover the jump drive and emerge as an interstellar power. This will go on to expand till it becomes the Vilani Grand Empire of Stars , Vilani Ziru Sirka, and conquer thousands of planets. This was the First Imperium. The Vilani launched the Consolidation Wars and conquered and absorbed its enemies until there were no longer any ‘civilized’ states on its borders. For 1,800 years they ruled 15,000 planets and 27 sectors of space. The Empire became a conservative one content to maintain the status quo with little continuing technical innovation but a high degree of social harmony.
Around 3,500 years ago the humans of earth discover the jump drive. The first interstellar mission from Earth discovers a small Vilani prospecting base at Barnard’s Star and, for Terrans, first contact occurs. The enthusiasm and raw ability of the Terrans contrasts with the cultural and scientific conservativism of the Vilani. The byzantine and fractured nature of the ruling families of the Ziru Sirka allowed the Terrans to survive and flourish despite several Interstellar Wars between the two cultures.
