Marmouz, Simianoid Race

The Marmouz are a race of advanced Simians that evolved on the jungle planet of Epa that is the third planet orbiting the star Moshan. Unfortunately within the same star system is the planet Merkur, homeworld of the Pryfyn insectoid race. The Marmouz were the first alien race encountered by the Pryfyn and suffered mercilessly at their hands.

Marmouz have a matriarchal social structure. Each group is led by a coalition of high-ranking females and, to a lesser degree, males typically headed by an old, experienced matriarch who acts as the decision-maker and leader. Their society is generally peaceful solving disputes by reaching a consensus rather than direct confrontation. Their culture was pre-industrial and agrarian based, at roughly tech level 2. They lived peacefully in scattered extended communities across their jungle planet.

The Marmouz were swiftly conquered by the Pryfyn and then driven to the edge of extinction. They were ideal hosts for the Pryfyn. In less than fifty years armadas of Pryfyn craft had made the journey to Epa and the population dwindled. Attempts were made by some Pryfyn clans to set up enclaves of breeding Marmouz but other rival clans would raid them. The fractured and highly competitive nature of Pryfyn society made co-operation impossible.  Further attempts at factory farming failed as the mentally unstimulated Marmouz made poor hosts with offspring being deficient.  

Then the Pryfyn discovered the jump drive and attention switched to the Blyth homeworld a mere parsec away. A small number of Pryfyn hunters remained behind but the jungle world was not comfortable for the Pryfyn there was no urgency to remain on Epa. Since then, the number of Marmouz has slowly increased tough they know to avoid the insectoids at all cost.

One thing that the Pryfyn taught the Marmouz was how to fight. The survivors know to close swiftly with the weaker insectoids and engage them in melee if they have to. They attack hunters from jungle cover and retreat just as swiftly
